Smart Disability Accommodation is a registered SDA provider.  This one-of-a-kind Smart home is located at one minute walking distance from the newly built Norlane Aquatic Recreation Centre and Barwon Health North Hospital and multiple General Practitioners. This unique residence leverages advanced technology to create an accessible and responsive environment, fostering greater independence and comfort for its inhabitants.

This smart home is equipped with automated systems that control lighting, doors, air conditioning, and blinds through voice commands and mobile apps. These features are crucial for individuals with mobility impairments, allowing them to navigate their living spaces with ease. Key features include:

·        Door Automation: Every door that can be used by participants is fully automated and can be controlled by various means. This includes standard wall buttons, remote buttons that can be placed in a convenient location or mounted on other assistive technology devices (wheelchairs), phones, tablets, computers, voice control, etc. We have various types of doors in the house:

o   Standard doors that have button on each side

o   Bedroom doors that have RFID reader on one side that can be triggered by participants swiping their wristbands. This feature is added for extra privacy (no one can enter participant bedroom without their permission – clearly, we have safety protocols in place designed for emergency situations)

o   Front entry door that has face recognition system that allows entry only to people who have permission to enter (it is possible to use RFID cards and/or user-password combinations instead of face recognition)

·        Lighting automation: Lighting is set up to be triggered by moving around the house without the need for pressing any button. This type of automation also includes bathroom heating and bathroom/laundry fan control.

·        Air Conditioning Automation: Automated air conditioning that can be tailored to specific participant needs. It is also app/voice controlled.

·        Blinds Automation: Blinds can be controlled through app and voice control as well or set up to open/close at specific times of the day depending on the outdoor weather conditions.

·        Water heating and solar energy production automation: Our SDA home is equipped with energy efficiency solutions that heats the water only at specific times when excessive energy is produced by the solar panels on the roof reducing out of pocket costs for our residents.

·        Intelligent Safety Systems: Our homes incorporate smart safety systems such as fall detection sensors, emergency alert systems, and automated locking mechanisms. These technologies detect potential hazards and alert caregivers, ensuring prompt assistance.

·        Adaptive Living Spaces: The design of our smart SDA homes is inherently flexible, featuring adjustable countertops, specially designed kitchen and laundry cabinets, etc. These adaptations ensure that the living space can be tailored to the specific needs of the resident, promoting independence in daily activities.

·        Environmental Controls: Our homes adjust environmental settings based on the resident’s preferences and needs. For instance, lights can be dimmed or brightened, changed different colours on command, and temperatures can be adjusted automatically to create a comfortable living environment. The LED Strip Lighting has been installed throughout the entire house for added safety.

We are currently heavily investing in research and development of sound control (capability of controlling home with specific sounds for non-verbal participants) and location control (use of millimetre wave sensors that can trigger home automation depending on person location within the house)

Our aim is to empower our participants to be as independent as possible through technology solutions. We plan to work with individual participants to tailor the home controls to their specific needs. At Smart Disability Accommodation, we believe that tailored smart accommodations, combined with staff who are properly trained to use cutting-edge technology, are at the core of fulfilling NDIS participant goals and empowering them beyond what the NDIS scheme anticipates.
